I have more than 16 years experience as a director in higher ed/career development (and experience in many other sectors) . . . I've helped many college students find and land internships and employment. Perhaps you've been told "you need to get an internship," or maybe you realize the importance of getting real-world/relevant experience outside the classroom. There are many reasons for doing an internship. The bottom line is that internships are critical. Don't leave college without one--please do not enter the workforce without an internship on your resume.
Reasons to do an INTERNSHIP:
Provides you with relevant experience before you graduate and enter the workforce.
Learn about a particular job/industry . . . the pros & cons (both can help you in the decision-making process).
Strengthen your resume--elevate it and get noticed over other job seekers.
Employers nowadays expect to see an internship on an applicant's resume.
You'll gain key networking contacts during an internship experience. It's about who you know and who knows you.
70% of employers make a full-time job offer to their interns
